I like to be able to fit my sleeping bag inside the rucksack, not strapped to the outside.
I like to have easy access to my cooking stuff, and I like to have a divider so that any wet stuff doesn’t affect everything else. And the bag needs to comfortable enough when full that I’m not constantly needing to stop for a break and to readjust my pack.
This bag scores full points on all of these.
What I liked best about this rucksack is the A-Trek adjustable back system, meaning that no matter what your height, shape or size, when you are carrying heavy loads it is much more comfortable than you would expect, and you will tire less quickly.
I’m sure you are familiar with built-in rain-covers, as quite a few rucksacks feature them now; however since this one is made by Berghaus it actually does the job.
There are straps for two walking poles, although I would also like to see a strap designed for an ice-axe as well.
Finally, the bag is hydration system compatible, as I’m sure you would expect.

Here are some REAL customer reviews:
“Can hardly call them Pockets.”
Strange how this happens, but, it’s as if the pockets are part of the overall bag. What I mean by that is… Whatever you put in the pockets WILL reduce how much you can fit inside the main compartment. That is not the small netted pockets you … Read more
Fits everything I need to, but nothing more. The pockets all share the same space as the main compartment so 65L is 65L and nothing more. The zips are very strong though and haven’t broken yet. After a month of travelling, there doesnt appear t… Read more
“Pros and Cons”
Best things about this rucksack:1. Comfort-This is a very comfortable rucksack to carry, particularly for the shoulders2. Space-Not so much in that it’s a big rucksack but the space it has is cleverly distributed into functional side pockets an… Read more
Another great rucksack by Berghaus, although as always, we did manage to find a few niggles!
(A few) Velcro fastenings on a bag that I will be taking out on treks is a something I’m not 100% keen on. Snow, dirt and dust get caught up in them, so I would expect them to lose functionality over time.
I would also agree that the chest strap is not perfect for everyone. Nonetheless, a nice-looking, hard-wearing, functional bag, just as you would expect from a brand like Berghaus.
I’m certain that you’ll appreciate the Bivy separator that allows you to access the main bag through the bottom compartment; I thought that was a smart solution to the frequent problem I’m sure everyone has experienced of finding that what they need always seems to be at the bottom of the pack!
All-in-all, the Torridon is a modern, high-quality, technical rucksack for the hiker or traveler who doesn’t want to leave things to chance.
